Low-Commitment Projects: Natural Habitat

May 7, 2012

What you see above, folks, is the Northwestern Tiny Brown Bear in its natural habitat.  If you’re really quiet, he (and his name is Max) might let you perch next to him on his log, especially if you bring a picnic.  Max’s portrait is one in a series for this week’s Low-Commitment Projects, titled Natural [...]

I Made a Travel Bag

March 30, 2012

We are hopefully on an airplane right now, headed in the right direction.  It is pretty hard to get on the wrong plane these days, right?  That doesn’t happen, right?  I’m not at all anxious about that happening. We might get on the wrong bus when we get to our destination, though.  That totally might [...]

Graduation Invitations

March 27, 2012

I’m not graduating.  And when I did graduate, I didn’t do anything cool like printing my invitations myself; I bought the overpriced, gold-shiny, school seal-emblazoned ones.  Maybe I was too busy making my piece for the MFA thesis exhibition.

Low-Commitment Projects: Just Like the Picture

March 26, 2012

Just Like the Picture was one of the most fun Low-Commitment Projects to work on so far.  I actually made myself chuckle while photographing these recreations of food packaging photos, plus it resulted in a fridge chock full of meals.  The Grape Nuts photo was the first one I did and is my favorite by far.  It totally [...]

Low-Commitment Projects: Tree Drops

March 12, 2012

The best part about this week’s Low-Commitment Project was tromping around the brambles at first light, locating and decorating the perfect, imperfect trees.  The images for Tree Drops are from two separate photo sessions.  For the first one, my dad and I off-roaded down their big hill to reach the tree I selected the prior [...]

I Am a Factory

March 11, 2012

I love screenprinting with my little Gocco.  It makes me feel like I’m my own miniature self-contained factory.  There’s an assembly line, stacks of products, and hairnets.  Not hairnets, actually.  I’d like to note that you have to wear hairnets to keep your hair tidy under your hunt cap when you show horses.  Yuck–they always [...]

Serging My Way Back To You, Babe

March 8, 2012

I was so scared of our serger.  You know how you get scared of unfamiliar things, mainly because you don’t understand them?  That’s heavy, right?  Well, I didn’t have time to read the serger manual and get properly acquainted with it, so I was living in fear of the potential for disaster that the machine [...]

I Made a Sort of Modern Hanging Planter

March 6, 2012

A few months back, you might remember my reports (here and here) from ceramics class.  One of my favorite by-products of my learning process is this planter.  This weekend, I finally got around to filling it with succulents from other overgrown pots in our house.

Rolls of Paper: Cut, Watercolored, and Markered

March 1, 2012

Say you had two dozen or so rolls of assorted paper.  What would you do with them?  Faced with this dilemma (and a deadline), I tried a bunch of techniques and settled on three.  Most of my paper rolls are cut, watercolored, or markered.  The ones in the top photo are watercolor.  Since I don’t [...]
